FOR THE OLDER BEGINNER
Piano Adventures is a piano method based on discovery, creativity, and adventure through music making. There are four books for each level: Lesson, Theory, Technique & Artistry, and Performance. Correlating pages are shown in the lower right margin.
Book Two of Accelerated Piano Adventures for the Older Beginner combines Level 2A and Level 2B of the basic Piano Adventures method. Concepts include major and minor pentascales; transposition; intervals through the 6th; C, G, and F major scales with their primary chords; the dotted crotchet; and connected pedaling.
The student pianist will become acquainted with music by Beethoven, Chopin, Dvorak, Joplin, Offenbach, and Rossini. Traditional folk and blues songs, as well as original pieces by Faber and Faber, are also part of the repertoire.
A dictionary of musical terms is provided at the end of the book for easy reference.
The following features contribute to the educational success of the Piano Adventures method:
1. A step-by-step approach with constant review. The materials are organised into units, which represent the main concepts and skills. As new units are introduced, previous concepts and skills continue to be reinforced.
2. A wide range of styles in the musical material. This helps develop musicianship and encourages personal expression. Occasional lyrics add enjoyment, while teacher duets
provide rhythmic vitality and sonority.
3. A strong foundation in reading that builds successful musical performance of pitches and rhythms. Guide notes are emphasized, with new notes being gradually introduced. As five-finger positions are learned, students are sometimes directed to start on different fingers than those normally used for the pattern. This unique feature avoids equating a particular note with a certain finger.
4. A sense of adventure, brought about through Creative and Discovery activities. An optional creative project is offered with most units, as well as frequent Discove
