SANTORINI VINE-RICH ISLAND
SANTORINI VINE-RICH ISLAND
Armed with his love of nature and viniculture, Dimitris Talianis set out on his journey on the wine roads, trying to marry light to the fleeting moment, cultivation to season, the movement of hands to the movement of the vine. He has been photographing Santorini for over ten years: the separation, pruning, sulphur spraying and harvest – particularly the harvest – and winemaking in caves and underground rock-hewn wineries.
Panos Theodorides, who has many years of interest in the subject, illuminates known and unknown aspects of the past and present of Santorini through an extensive yet solid introductory text, as well as through 80 commentary texts on the photographs.
Anyone who tastes Santorinian wine – in any of its varieties, sun-dried or organic, white or red – feels the sensuality of the honeyed grape, since part of its mass has been taken by the sun, with an imperceptible nod from the wind, coming from every point on the horizon. The beauty of the landscape, the architecture and the inhabitants’ special way of life, have claimed a particular place in the global memory with their serene power.
Santorini of the Cyclades and the world, blessed by light and even by disaster!
